Carolina Aragón, American
High Tide, 2016
This photograph captures Carolina Aragón’s exhibit titled “High Tide” as displayed on the Boston Greenway in 2016. Her sculpture consists of a population of fiberglass rods swaying upright with colored plexiglass panes swinging around in the breeze, throwing light in twinkling orbits. It evokes images of a serene marsh, with a gentle gust and clean salt in the air. The issue is the high tide mark will flood the first story of the Traffic Tunnel Administration Building. Ms. Aragón juxtaposes what humans removed, the marsh, with what we replaced it with, the administrative building, with what will replace the building if we do not solve the problem of sea level rise.
