The Big Burn
This collection investigates the ravaging force of wildfire; a natural or human-caused calamity rising in magnitude. While the spread of fire is a chief concern, here we also draw attention to the silent story left in its wake: reconstruction, respiratory illness, and poverty. In addition to the environmental and socio-economic consequences of a Pyrocene age, artistic and cultural tragedies occur, too. Many artists who lost their homes and studios to wildfire also lost entire bodies of work. But some have found a new muse in the ashes, sharing the art they made from materials scavenged or salvaged from the wreckage.
