In December 1984, 45 tons lethal methyl isocyanate gas escaped from an insecticide plant in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India killing thousands and leaving the rest of the world in utter shock and sadness; it is considered among the worst industrial disasters and the people of Bhopal are still grappling with the aftermath of this toxic tragedy.
