Andres Amador, American
Flowers I, 2010
This is a photograph of one of Amador’s many beach mural explorations. In these explorations, Amador uses a rake to etch designs into beaches all around the world - intentionally doing it during low tide so that with the coming of high tide, the design will be gone. In Flowers I, Amador’s tapestry of flowers creates a beautiful, dynamic attraction to which the viewer is drawn with its crisp lines and attention to detail. The medium, sand, was chosen intentionally for the effect of the water’s erasure. This gesture, to Amador, is meant to be a comment on the fleeting nature of Earth’s processes and the beauty that persists despite such impermanence. Label by Mary Elizabeth Parks
