Figuring Flint
This is a close look at the man-made water disaster in Flint, Michigan. In 2013, the city, deep in debt, switched its water source from Lake Huron to the Flint River in an attempt to cut costs (and, evidently, corners) until a direct pipeline to Lake Huron could be built. The Flint River was a dumping ground for factory and waste effluents, and it didn’t take long for residents to notice a change; water bottles filled with murky brown filth and cloudy yellow water flowing from faucets were undeniable proof that there was indeed a health crisis happening before residents’ very eyes.
