This is Cameron Evans, a photographer and native of Tangier, a low-lying island located in the heart of the Chesapeake Bay. This picture was taken as Evans moved a headstone that was threatened to be claimed by the rising water. He frequently visits this part of Tangier that has been abandoned due to the increasingly high waters and erosion. The people who live on the island are determined to stay; after all, this is and has been their home, their way of life. But the future of Tangier is uncertain in the face of rising waters. In Evans’ own words, ‘I’ll never leave this place, and I hope this place will never leave me. Label by Molly Elliott
